Sea Hares; we are currently providing wild-caught Aplysia californica which are heartier and more responsive than specimens cultured in other facilities. Prices for specimens are currently $18.00 ea. and availability may be impacted due to the current weather conditions as we are in an El Nino-year. However, we are supplying clients with freshly collected animals. Shipping is extra. Please contact us for more information. Strongylocentrotus purpuratus and Lytechinus pictus are found here. Live & Gravid Sea Urchins can be supplied year round from Santa Barbara. After more than a decade of supplying the best sea urchins found anywhere the Dept. of Fish & Game, under pressure from fishermen, decided to restrict the collecting of this abundant and useful model for Embryology, all the while allowing others with less experience to sell them in any quantity. As a result of this action, I can supply Sand Dollars which are ripe at this time. Sand Dollars are $75.00 for twenty-five sand dollars and their shipping container. In order to get sea urchins you must purchase a California Sc. Collectors Permit which can cost upwards of $250 plus it can take three months (or more) to obtain a permit and the permit may limit your ability to obtain gravid urchins. The Permit must be applied for from the California Dept. of Fish & Game. |
